Jono Boyle

J Patrick Boyle is an artist based in Bristol whose practice is a hybrid of appropriated imagery, collected memorabilia, song lyrics and other cultural debris. Initially working on the street as Motorboy (the name he originally used as a DJ) Boyle’s output acts as a form of selective commentary, picking from the pool of discarded cultural memories like a DJ picks from the crates. As J Patrick Boyle the artist becomes much more personal and intimate. His re-use of song lyrics as punctuation points in our own lives, become a reminder for the individual, a personal trigger to open up past identification and the transient nature within which we reflect our personalities and look for meaning in the world. An artist who successfully works across a whole range of creative outlets his works feature in the collections of museums and private collectors. He is a founding member of the artist collective Steal From Work who produced the hugely popular 12 Days of Xmas exhibitions (Dec 07 and 08) and curated Crimes of Passion at the Royal West of England Academy. He also runs Neon; a joint studio and art bar in Bristol, is currently in the process of establishing an artist book publishing house and creating a line of T-shirts as well as curating further group exhibitions. He is a member of the Neomodern artists group.
