Jealous master printer Matthew Rich taught the students of Weston Park Art Club all about the world of screenprinting, with each child rolling up their sleeves to pull their prints. Jealous North will be displaying the final prints created by the children in a 4 day mini exhibition! Here Pip of Weston Park Art Club gives a brief of the day and what the art club involves:

"Jealous Gallery provided two exciting and dynamic sessions where the children of Weston Park Art Club were taught how to screen print. These joyous sessions, run by Matthew Rich, Jealous Gallery’s master printer, and artist Danny Augustine, saw every child get stuck in as they experimented with screen printing.  Weston Park Art Club believes passionately in the value of art education and our vision is that all children should have access to the power of art in their lives. Art supports our children to find their voice and build their confidence, it nourishes their imagination, dexterity, intuition and reasoning. We believe that art education is a gateway to wide range of great careers in the arts and creative industries and that all children should grow up with the opportunities that art offers.  Weston Park art club is run by parents through our parent teacher association at Weston Park Primary School working with a broad range of trained artist educators who provide inspiring role models for the boys and girls. Every Thursday, after school, art club offers a session led by a different artist educator, providing high quality materials to explore different skills, art forms and techniques. At each session the children will also learn about an important artist who has used the technique or materials they will explore. The parents who organise art club work hard make art club accessible, offering places on a pay what you can afford basis. This is made possible by the support we get from local businesses including Jealous Gallery, The Urban Flower Company, Gail's Bakery and the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme.

The children of Weston Park also shared their thoughts about screenprinting:

Miranda: "A great experience for the creative"

Auden: "I liked screenprinting because when you put the paint on and pull the squeegy to the other side it's like magic. The picture appears on the piece of paper on the front!"

Tarin: "Screenprinting was awesome! I loved cutting out the paper people and mixing the colours of ink. Everyone's pictures were amazing!"

Lucinda: "It was the best day ever!"

Poppy: "I really enjoyed screen printing. I would love to do it again."
