Art on a Postcard and Mick Rooney RA have been working together on a project that brings together music and art.
Art on Postcard is working alongside Mick Rooney RA on a project which encompasses music and art. One of Mick’s submissions to the RA Summer Exhibition 2016 was a beautifully handcrafted ukulele, painted in his instantly recognisable rich, poetic style.
The instrument opened Mick up to a world of ukulele enthusiasts and gave him the idea to create an orchestra of painted ukuleles. Mick has asked many
of his peers as well as new and exciting emerging talent to paint one of 30 ukuleles each.
Pete Howlett, the UK’s foremost independent ukulele producer and the sole manufacturer for the Ukulele
Orchestra of Great Britain (UOGB) has made 8 ukuleles especially for the UOGB and we have a further 22 KALA ukuleles ready to be painted.
Art on a Postcard will showcase the instruments at a charity performance with The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and some very special guests
at The Jazz Cafe on September 12 before holding an event to auction them. The money raised will go to The Hepatitis C Trust.
On May 3 Art on a Postcard launch their Art on a Ukulele crowd funding campaign. AOAP need to raise £6000 towards the production of this project.
