For much of the summer, the second floor of Jealous Print Studio was dominated by one edition, a mammoth undertaking to complete a screenprint for artist Will Martyr and his solo exhibition Wanderlust at Unit, London.
Fresh from completing a 52 colour screenprint edition by Mick Bray, Jealous screenprinter Joss started proofing in April. He and Will Martyr embarked
on a journey to create one of the most technically complicated editions completed at Jealous.
After a month of creating separations, making sure all the acetates fitted together seamlessly, a further week was spent matching colours to the original canvas, before work finally started on pulling the first layers on what finally became the 47 colour print A Way With Words.
We caught up with the artist, Will, on completion of the edition after his sell out show. He described his experience with working at Jealous for the first time:
'I approached the team at Jealous to produce a print to coincide with my exhibition ‘Wanderlust’ at Unit London in June this year. At 47 colour separations it required a huge amount of skill and discipline. This artistry was not just to mix and color match my original artwork but then also to accurately contend with registration on so many screens onto a single sheet of paper. Ultimately, the print looked stunning and I was amazed by how little waste there was in getting the run out and signed off. It was always a pleasure to visit the studio as the print progressed and learn more about a medium, which I intend to explore in subsequent projects with Jealous.'
